Photo Guidelines

The quality of the photo will have a big impact on the quality of the final portrait so please choose carefully. We prefer using photos done at a photography studio. When using non-professional photos please follow the guidelines below to achieve the best outcome in your portrait:

  • The person’s face should be clear and in the size of 1″ x 1″ or larger in the photo.
  • Indoor taken photos make better portraits than outdoor photos.
  • If the photo you choose is outdoor taken, avoid the ones with strong shadows casted on faces from the sunlight as the shadow might not appear well in portraits.

We also specialize in duplicating old photographs. Often times these photos do not have great amount of detail in people faces, however the strong contrast in them make them turn out great in portrait. These portraits make wonderful memory keepsakes as your old photograph will fade away after years but our artwork can last much longer.

If using photos of quality other than listed above, we can still try our best but please understand the quality of photos impacts the quality of portraits. If the portrait does not meet your satisfaction, we can only do some minor touch-ups, but unfortunately we cannot refund your deposit.

Special Requests

We can do special requests such as:

  • Combining people from separate photos into one portrait
  • Putting clothing from one photo on the figure in another photo

The following requests are possible, but advised against as it the portrait might turn out as a poor representation of the original person:

  • Removing eyeglasses
  • Modify hairstyle
  • Removing braces
  • Improve facial appearance such as removing wrinkles/double-chin, making face slimmer

While all these requests are possible, we suggest that you supply all of the extra photo elements to be drawn.

Example: For a beach background portrait, please supply a photo of the beach as well as a person in a proper pose.

Making a Special Request

When making a special request, please include it when you submit a Quote Request form on the right hand side of this page. Please be very specific when you describe any changes you would like to be made. Detailed written instruction is preferred. Depends on the difficulty level of the special requests, an extra fee might be subjected.
